Today I finished prepping drives for my upcoming shoots in January and February, and two things surprised me about this process this go-around: 1. It’s the year 2020 and we are still using 3.5” spinning hard drives to save media at scale, and 2. The cheapest way to buy large 12TB drives is to order them in a plastic USB enclosure and crack them open to retrieve the bare drives.
It’s a process that creates a ton of waste, and I wish there was a way to buy OEM 3.5” drives straight from the manufacturer for less than the WD My Books.
Today was also Christmas, and with my roommates out of town and my family two thousand miles away, it was a chance to take some time to reflect on how I want to spend my time, especially when I’m alone. I’ve been doing a good job of keeping up on my health and nutrition since moving to Bozeman, Montana, but my work habits have been all over the place. I really like the idea of having a journalling or blogging practice that forces me to stop each day and write something, especially about the work I’m doing and what I’m learning. So here goes!
